Halloween in The Villages Town Squares 2026: Your Night Out

Two groups of your neighbors have been learning the zombie choreography since August, which is more rehearsal than any other act on the Halloween schedule gets. On Saturday, October 31, they dance at the same minute on opposite ends of The Villages.

The official Halloween lineup puts Thrill The Villages at Spanish Springs and Thrillagers at Eastport, and both are listed for 6:45 p.m. You can't catch both. So once you've settled on a costume, the next thing to decide is which troupe you want to see, if you want to see one at all.

The rehearsals started before the pumpkins went up

According to Thrill The Villages, you don't need any dance experience to join, but there's a real commitment. New dancers are expected at nine weekly practices that run from August to mid-October. On top of those come an outdoor rehearsal and, for anyone performing on a square, rehearsals at the square itself. The group lists new-dancer practices on Sundays at Eisenhower and Thursdays at Rohan, with alumni practicing Mondays at Rohan, and it notes that times and locations can change. Dancers have to be Villages residents age 50 or older with a resident ID.

That works out to about two months of practice for a routine that lasts a few minutes. It's also why the 6:45 slot is the one fixed point on the night's schedule that your neighbors put together themselves.

The group's performance archive shows this is a tradition. It lists a Brownwood show on October 28, 2023, and a Spanish Springs show on October 31, 2024. This year the group is back at Spanish Springs.

The group also says it gives its performance fees away. Its list of recipients includes Sozo Kids, Tunnels to Towers, Thanksgiving meals for local first responders, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, local animal shelters, Toys for Tots and Best Buddies.

Thrillagers takes the Eastport stage

Thrillagers is the other troupe. On its About Us page, it describes itself as an official Resident Villages Lifestyle Group that runs on group-based leadership, and it calls itself "an active, inclusive dance group whose foundation is based on fun, fitness, friendships and respect." It teaches a modified version of the "Thriller" dance and reports 40 performances in 2026.

One of those dates is easy to picture. The group says it opened the "Michael" biopic at Old Mill Playhouse in April 2026, with four live performances over the premiere weekend. On Halloween it performs at 6:45 at Eastport, between sets from Blonde Ambition, the band playing from 6 to 10 p.m.

How the evening runs

Halloween is on a Saturday this year. In October, Spanish Springs, Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood keep Friday and Saturday entertainment hours of 6 to 10 p.m., and Eastport runs 6 to 10 p.m. every night. All four squares hold their Halloween celebrations in that same window. Here's the evening in order:

  1. 6 p.m. Bands start at all four squares, and costume judging goes on throughout the evening.
  2. 6:45 p.m. Thrill The Villages performs at Spanish Springs and Thrillagers performs at Eastport.
  3. 8 p.m. Costume contest winners are announced at Center Stage.
  4. 10 p.m. The bands wrap up.

There are 75 minutes between the dance and the winner announcement. If you arrive at 6:30 at Spanish Springs or Eastport, you'll see the troupe, have time for a drink and a walk around the square, and still be at Center Stage for the results. The Pumpkin Spike is the featured cocktail at the bar huts on every square.

Every square has its own costume theme

Since each square runs its own contest with its own categories, your costume can help you pick a square, or the square can help you pick a costume. These details come from the official Halloween page.

Square Theme Music 6:45 troupe Contest categories
Spanish Springs Home State Halloween Scooter the DJ Thrill The Villages Best State Spirit Award, United States of Awesome, America's Choice
Eastport Icons & Idols Blonde Ambition Thrillagers Ultimate Icon Award, The Headliners, People's Choice
Lake Sumter Landing Decades Eighteen87 None listed Best Decade Icon, Best Time-Traveling Duo or Group, The Greatest Hit Award
Brownwood Wild West Halloween Alex Hayes Band None listed Best Sheriff in Town, Best Posse, Most Wanted

Each square has at least one group-costume category, so couples and friend groups can enter together anywhere. The Home State theme at Spanish Springs is the broadest. The page invites you to come as a famous figure, a landmark, a state symbol or your favorite sports team. Spanish Springs also adds its own cocktail special, the Vampire's Kiss, alongside the Pumpkin Spike.

Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood fill the slot with music

If you'd rather skip the zombie dance, two squares give the whole evening to the band. At Lake Sumter Landing, Eighteen87 plays from 6 to 10 p.m. under the Decades theme, which runs from the Roaring '20s through the '80s and later.

Brownwood starts much earlier. The Hometown Market is on the square from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Halloween, and the Alex Hayes Band plays from 6 to 10 p.m. You can shop the market in the morning, go home for your boots and bandana, and come back after dark for the Wild West contest.

Sawgrass Grove has the same October entertainment hours as the town squares, but it isn't one of the four locations on the Halloween lineup.

Halloween indoors at Old Mill Playhouse

If you'd like to dance yourself, or just want a seat and a roof, Villagers for Veterans is hosting a ticketed Halloween Dance Party at Old Mill Playhouse on October 31 at 6:30 p.m., with music by Hollywood & The Tropix. The listing shows a base ticket price of $22. The town square events are open to all, so the main difference is that this one requires a ticket.

What changes after October 31

The schedule changes the next day. Beginning November 1, all town squares and Sawgrass Grove move to 5 to 9 p.m. every night of the week. That means Halloween is the last Saturday of the fall season with music running until 10.

The next all-squares event is Light Up The Villages on December 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Brownwood, Eastport, Lake Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs, with holiday music, lights and special guests.

If the 6:45 dance makes you want to join in next year, the troupes give you two ways to start. Thrillagers' next beginner class is a nine-week Wednesday series in the Five Rings Theater Room at Olympia Recreation Center, running January 6 to March 3, 2027. It's open to residents with a Villages ID, and you don't need dance experience. Thrill The Villages runs its new-dancer practices from August to mid-October, so its next group of zombies would start learning next summer.

If you're thinking about which part of The Villages puts your favorite square within an easy golf-cart ride, I'd love to help you sort it out. Let's Connect with Nathan Piotrowski, and happy haunting on the squares.
